Jose Mourinho

Chelsea has confirmed the return of Jose Mourinho as their manager on a four-year deal. The Portuguese manager flew in to London today as he finalized his return to the club he managed to two Premier League titles in 2004/5 and 2005/6.

The 50-year-old has agreed the framework of a four-year contract which will make him the highest paid manager in the Premier League, earning him about £8.5million a year after tax.

Mourinho will return to a squad which contains some familiar faces, with Petr Cech, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, John Mikel Obi and John Terry still regulars, while Michael Essien also remains on the books.

He replaces Rafael Benitez, who was brought in to replace Roberto Di Matteo in November on an interim basis. Benitez who was not a favorite among majority of the Chelsea fans left to join Napoli after securing third place in the Premier League and winning the Europa league.

Mourinho won his second Champions League trophy with Inter Milan in 2010, but left to join Real Madrid later that summer replacing Manuel Pellegrini, who is favourite to take over at Manchester City.

He finished second in La Liga in his first season - four points behind Barcelona, but won the title a year later, racking up 100 points in the process.
