Portugal rise over Croatia in friendly

A solitary goal from Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo in the first half gave slim victory to Paulo Bento’s men against Croatia on Monday in an international friendly in Switzerland. The 36 minute low left foot drive from the seleccao skipper gave Paulo the victory with a lot of chances being wasted in both halves.

With a slow start, Croatia had the opportunity to break the deadlock on six minute but Ivica Olic failed to utilize a cross from Ivo Ilicevic. The Real Madrid forward dominated the game with impressive runs and excitements thus igniting the atmosphere in Geneva.

Both teams are in preparations for their respective 2014 World cup qualifiers. Portugal top group H with 14 points and they are grouped alongside Russia, Israel, Northern Ireland, Azerbaijan and Luxembourg.

Croatia are in group A alongside Serbia, Macedonia, Belgium, Wales, Scotland and they will be meeting Serbia in September after having lost to Scotland in their last encounter.
