Manchester City beat South China 1-0 in the Barclays Asia Trophy to win its first pre season match after suffering back to back defeats in their South African tour. City was beaten 2-0 by Super sport United and three days later bruised 2-1 by AmaZulu in celebration of Nelson Mandela 95th birthday.

South China are the 2012/13 champions of the Hong Kong Division League and were scheduled to play three English Premier League teams in the two day Barclays Asia tournament cup.

The only Premier League-affiliated competition to be held outside England, the Barclays Asia Trophy 2013 features Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland and South China.

The four team knock-out tournament which will take place over two match days, saw Sunderland thrash Tottenham 3-1 on Wednesday in the first match of the tournament. On Saturday there will be a final to determine the winner and a play-off to see who takes 3rd place.

The 40,000 capacity Hong Kong Stadium is playing host to the tournament.
