Lightning that killed an entire football team in DRC

Updated on 16/02/12  |    By ALEX ISOE

Football fans in the central African state of Democratic Republic of Congo were hurling accusations of witchcraft at each other after a freak blast of lightning struck dead an entire team on the playing field while their opponents were left completely untouched.

According to Congo press Agency, the lightning killed all the players on the home team in the village of Bena Tshadi in the province of Eastern Kasai.Over 30 people who were watching the match were also heavily hit by the lightening  though none of the injuries is believed to be life threatening.

Investigators blamed the incident on witchcraft because all the opposing players from the nearby village of Basanga escaped with no injuries and sorcery is often used by the communities in the region in an attempt to influence soccer games.

The question is is was this a case of true witchcraft or some science applied?and does witchcraft really work in modern soccer?
