Dr. Hassan Wario was on Wednesday afternoon sworn in as the first cabinet secretary for Sports, Arts and Culture under the new constitution. Dr. Wario who hails from Moyale district was amongst the 16 cabinet secretaries nominated by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto.

The 43 year old Dr. Wario holds a Doctorate degree in Anthropology and has worked previously with the National Museums of Kenya.

Walter Machio a senior sport consultant at Michezo Afrika pointed out that Dr. Wario will have a lot to do but he would have to consult widely with current stake holders in the field, “it’s a unique opportunity for the new cabinet secretary to exploit the abundant and untapped talents that have not been extensively used in the past,”

“we know he his inheriting a ministry that has been working on several recommendations and ongoing programs but what would be best at the moment is to meet the different stake holders in sports  and get the true picture of how sports is on the ground before embarking on anything.”
