The Zambian Ministry of Sports is to reward the kings of African football in a fat manner…$1.357 million, an equivalent of KSH.112, 631,000, to the players to be precise. The award is a princely sum in a nation where, per capita, the gross domestic product is less than $1500.
Chisimba Kambwili, Minister of Sports announced that this is an initiative of the government to reward the national outfit for their exemplary performance in the just concluded African Cup of Nations.
"The government has given each one of you $59 000 (kshs.4.8million) , and that is beside what the corporate organizations might decide to give. This money is from the government," Chisimba Kambwili said on national radio.
This is in an effort to reward them for picking up their first ever African Cup of Nations title in the history of African football. The Copper Bullet Boys hit 8 penalties past the Ivory Coast goalie against 7 from the Elephants to claim victory over the hot favorites.
