The Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Art and Culture Mr. Hassan Wario has said the government is going to put up measures to control and govern sports academies in Kenya.

Dr. Wario says that many organizations and individuals have been running academies with different interests but with the new sports bill, regulations are going to be put in place regarding the management of the academies.

“The government is going to work on academies. We shall ensure that many academies are put in place so that more talent can be tapped. With the new sports bill regulation is going to be put in place regarding their management” he said.

“Am told that if Oliech is to retire from international competitions then Harambee Stars will not have a striker, this is a bad situation and we must start working on the academies to identify untapped talent” he added.

Kenya has many academies which have produced great names such as Dennis Oliech who plays in league one club Ajaccio in France and McDonald Mariga of Parma. In athletics names like Paul Koech who is world half marathon champion, the late Samuel Wanjiru and many others.
