Stephen Karanja from the Ministry of Sports Culture and Arts says the government is more focused on the development of sports for the physically challenged.

Karanja says that a big percentage of the ministry’s sports budget will be geared towards sports for the physically challenged and ensure that they are also given full consideration.

“The government is concerned with the sports for the physically challenged and I want to assure you that the biggest percentage of sports funding from the ministry will be channeled towards them.” He said.

Karanja also wished the squad that will be selected to represent Kenya all the best in the upcoming Deaf Olympics , “I want to wish the Kenyan team that will be selected to represent Kenya in Sofia, Bulgeria all the best and even do better than last year”.

Kenya did well in last year’s DAAK world championships by bagging 11 medals and was positioned 4th out of the 32 countries that participated.

The Kenya Deaf Athletics Association has carried out a two days trial that will see 26 athletes chosen to represent the Nation in the summer Deaf Olympics that will take place in Sofia Bulgaria from 26th July to 4th August 2013.
