Four-midable Lewandowski is the Real deal

And so it was written, and so it was done. Brutal they were, devastating it felt. It was unbelievable, a shocker that resonated through the corners of many emotional beings. Just like their fellow El Clasico rivals, Barcelona, Real Madrid were put to the sword in earth-shattering proportions, Cristiano Ronaldo’s equalizer reduced to a mere consolation.

Jose Mourinho had purposed to put a solid defense. That was put to the shredder, as Los Blancos’ defensive nous flew out of the window leaving its clothes behind. Four times the net shook, four times the heads of the Madrid players fell, four times was the damage done by one of the most lethal forwards in recent times, Robert Lewandowski. All signs now point to a fourth final involving teams from the same country.

The Bundesliga has been knocking on the door, many feeling it never gets its recognition due to the marketing prowess of the Premiership and the La Liga. Not anymore. Given the displays the past two nights, European football power is slowly shifting towards Germany, and we should be taking note. Forget an El Clasico final, an all-German affair will give great value for money.

Dortmund were astonishing, making a mockery of the millions of pounds poured into the likes of Los Merengues. Jurgen Klopp’s young team has continually defied all odds, and last night, even the Special One couldn’t conjure anything special. The young BVB side left the Portuguese gaffer helpless, the team chasing a La Decima was left dejected.

It speaks volumes about the Black Yellows. They were absorbing, extraordinary and played on their terms. Many of the players have been nurtured, many have learnt the art of success. Forget the well-documented skills of CR7, even he couldn’t do anything to stop the rot. If the Castilian giants had thought they had learnt a lesson or two from the 2-1 group stage defeat, last night they were being schooled again.

We could run out of superlatives trying to describe what our eyes feasted on, but this was a reality check for the La Liga giants. And sadly for anyone Madrid, the German power-train will be making Madrid its next port of call next week on Tuesday. Mean it when you say solid defense, Mourinho. You’ve been warned.
