World football governing body FIFA has found Ethiopia guilty of fielding an illegible player in their previous encounter against Botswana of which the Walya Antelopes won 2-1. The match was declared forfeit and Botswana was awarded three points and a result of 3-0 was given in their favor.

The fielding of Minyahile Teshome Beyene who had earned two yellow cards led to the dismissal of General Secretary Ashenafi Ejigu who had received prior warning from FIFA over fielding him.

The Walya Antelopes remains group A summit leaders having been reduced to 10 points just two points ahead of Bafana Bafana and Botswana remain third place on seven points with both teams having a game to play.

Bafana Bafana must win their final pool match against Botswana at home in September, and hope that Central African Republic either beat Ethiopia or hold them to a draw, in order to book their place in the next round.
