South Africa's national soccer team Bafana Bafana has lost first choice international keeper Senzo Meyiwa who was shot dead by armed thugs on Sunday.

According to reports, two assailants gained access to his girlfriend's house in Johannesburg, with one standing outside to keep guard then a after a brief commotion, Meyiwa was fatally shot.

PSL club Orlando Pirates where Meyiwa was the captain posted a message on its website confirming the death and expressing sadness on the turn of events.Meyiwa played on Saturday’s 4-1 win over Ajax Cape Town.

“The Orlando Pirates Football Club family has learned with sadness about the untimely death of our number one goalkeeper and current captain Senzo Meyiwa.

"This is a sad loss whichever way you look at it - to Senzo's family , his extended family, Orlando Pirates and to the nation", commented the chairman Dr Irvin Khoza on http://www.orlandopiratesfc.com

The 27 year old Meyiwa has captained Bafana Bafana in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.His last national game was against Congo on 15th October.
