Eleven times Cecafa winners Uganda Cranes got off to a bright start in this year's edition when they beat Zanzibar 2-1 in the National Stadium,Dar eSalaam, Tanzania courtesy of a goals from Wagaluka and Serumaga.
Uganda Cranes drew first blood when Mike Serumaga raced into the box from the left flank then sent a low chip that beat the keeper Mwadini Ali.Dan Wagaluka easily tapped to make it 1-0.The 41st minute goal stood to the break.
Zanzibar managed to level the scores immediately after the break through Ali Badru who outpaced his marker Isaac Isinde then sent the ball into the net with great confidence.
Uganda Cranes who had dominated the better part of the first half were a pale shadow of themselves as Zanzibar managed to keep the striker starved off the ball by sealing the wings.
As Uganda looked for ideas to outdo Zanzibar Dan Wagaluka sent a through pass to Mike Mutyaba but the latter's goal was ruled offside.
Sula Matovu who had come in for Mike Mutyaba proved a worthy substitution when he weaved his way past the defenders then passed the ball to Tony Mawejje. The latter fed Serumaga who easily hit the ball to the net.The 78th minute goal was enough to give the Cranes maximum points.
In a match played earlier in the day, Burundi beat Somalia 4-1 to take an early Group B lead. Uganda is now second but has an inferior goal difference.
