CECAFA is deeply angered and shocked at the house arrest of Hussein Fadoul who serves as the Djibouti football Federation president. Fadoul was the only challenger to Leodeger Tenga and his failure to show up meant Tenga was re-elected un-opposed as Chairman during Thursday's polls.
According to reports from Djibouti, Fadoul was put under a house arrest by his sports minister Jama Elmi Ukiye whom they have had several disagreements on the management of football.
A joint statement issued by CECAFA Members read, “We are sending our strong message to the president of the Republic of Djibouti Mr. Ismail Omar Gueleh and we demand the sudden and unconditional release of football developer in his country Hussein Fadoul Dabar”
Meanwhile, Uganda will be out to extend their CECAFA title record this afternoon. The Uganda Cranes vs Zanzibar match will kick off at 4pm Kenyan time immediately after the opening match between Burundi and Somalia.
Uganda has lifted the cup a record 11 times. Last year they finished third after edging out Ethiopia 4-3 for third position play off. Tanzania beat them 5-4 in post match penalties and went on to lift the trophy.
