United States International University (USIU) women basketball team - The Flames - left Nairobi on Tuesday evening for Morocco where they will be representing Zone 5 in the 2013 edition of FIBA Africa Club championships.

USIU and Eagle Wings qualified for the finals by virtue of finishing in the top two positions during the zone 5 competition held in Kampala Uganda early in the year.

This will be the first time USIU is  taking part in the continental competition and they head to Morocco with good morale after their win over Kenyan defending champions Eagle Wings last weekend in the semi finals play offs.

Among the members of the team expected to shine in Morocco include experienced star Hilda Indasi, Sarah Chan, Emmah Nyakweba, Linda Mfuchi, Zipporah Adhiambo and Cynthia Irankunda among others.

Speaking before departure, star Hilda Indasi told michezoafrika.com that they look forward to gathering valuable experience against top clubs in Africa, “We are all very excited about this trip. It will be of great value especially because we have a very young team that is determined to rise to the top of the game in Kenya. This therefore will serve as a good exposure the talents we have and I hope we will come home with some good results.” She said.

The students qualified for the finals of the Kenyan league, their third in history and they will face KPA when they return from Morocco. USIU are also the 2013 champions of the Zuku Universities Basketball League.
