Blades defense attempts to stop Ulinzi's move

University side Strathmore blades were too good for military side Ulinzi Warriors as they outdid them 61-50 at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani Gymnasium in the first Kenyan Basketball Federation League match that was aired live on Supersport.

The University lads started the match slow but would gather energy in the third quarter which would prove the deciding quarter for the University lads. Blades would gather a nine point difference between them and the soldiers to draw off from a narrow 29-27 half time lead.

The first quarter was a closely contested tie between the two sides as they both managed to rake in 15 points. Strathmore would pull off in the second quarter gathering 14 points against Ulinzi’s 12. The third quarter saw Strathmore come back a different side as Ulinzi slumped into too many errors.

Strathmore took the quarter 22-13 thanks to Ulinzi’s poor defending and attack. The soldiers would throw away too many overturns and lose easy points as the students easily pulled in their baskets. Ulinzi conceded easy points, thrice their defense being penalized for sweeping away a basket-bound shot.

Clinton Alela was the most colorful of the Strathore players as he initiated most of the forward moves with his creativity sometimes proving too much to bear for the Ulinzi side who ended up committing too many fouls.

They would give a fight in the final quarter but it was a little too late with both teams tying at 10-10. Ulinzi improved in their scoring but at the same time would have done better on simple lay-offs.
