Nairobi Basketball Association Chairman Ronny Owino has lauded Basketball tournaments especially those held in the slums as they will help coaches identify talents even from tender age. The chairman was speaking after the conclusion of the Pamoja Tuvumiliane women Basketball tournament organized by Safe Spaces basketball team in collaboration with UNICEF and USAID over the weekend.

Owino identified one outstanding player Mary Ngoiri Kibunja whom he referred to the national team coaches to train and help polish her skills.

 “The lady was outstanding in the two day tournament something which has caught my attention I have referred her to the national team coaches and she will soon start training with them.” He said.

 Owino said Ngoiri will have an opportunity to train with the Nairobi team that wilkl be preparing for the with the Inter Cities basketball championship to be held in Kampala Uganda from the 29th April to 5th May.

 “The lady is young and green which means the coaches will work with her to polish her skills. Such opportunities never come easy given the competitiveness for positions in the national team.” He said.
