Nairobi City on Saturday afternoon managed to retain the East and Central Inter-cities basketball tournament championship after they overcame Mukono representing Uganda 79-63. The win sees Nairobi taking the title a record 11 times since its inception.

The 1st quarter saw Nairobi take the lead with 25 points against Mukono’s 12points but the hosts came back in the 2nd quarter taking it 17-13 to put the half time scores at 38-29 in favor of Nairobi. In the 3rd quarter the two teams were neck to neck but Nairobi was able to hold off the stubborn Mukono with 2 points and win the quarter 17-15 to put the scores at 55-44.

In the last quarter Nairobi was able to sink in 24 points while Mukono had 19 points and the victory made sure Sylvia Kamau’s side are crowned 2013 champions. Hilda Indasi who has been superb throughout the tournament was at the top of the score sheets once more with 27 points followed by Emma Nyakweba who had 12 points. Purity Auma scored 19 points for Mukono while Peace Nakarita had 10 points to her name.

The two teams had met before in the preliminary stage of the tournament where Nairobi beat Mukono 73-67.
