With 2 seconds to the buzzer, Thunder basketball team captain Griffin Ligare brought the Nyayo gymnasium into a frenzy when he sunk in a remarkable three point shot as his side was trailing visiting KPA 61-63.This dramatic ending ensured the home team took home two league points with a slim  but sweet 64-63 win.

The KBF Classic League bout had seen the home side desperately in need of the two points to catch up with KPA, and with seven seconds left on the clock, Thunder coach Faustine Mugendi called for a time out meaning that at the restart of play, the ball would be at KPA’s own half of the court.

This is when Ligare who more than often is a match top scorer stepped up, faking a drive towards the KPA rim, only to halt and in a backward move released the accurate shot crushing KPA’s hopes of taking a double win from their two matches in Nairobi.

The first quarter had seen KPA put pressure on Thunder with a 20-10 win but Thunder managed to recover with a 17-14 win in the 2nd quarter to put the half time scores at 34-27 in favor of the Mombasa based side.

The third quarter was a neck to neck battle but it was KPA who emerged victorious with a single point advantage the scores being 12-11.

In the action filled last quarter where Ligare made a comeback after being rested in the larger part of the 3rd quarter, Thunder gave their all with their captain pulling the strings for the Shauri Moyo based side. Thunder made the difference with the final quarter win with 26 points against KPA’s 17 points.

Ligare was definitely the man of the match with 33 points to his name while Ariel Okall and Tony Okello stood out for KPA with 12 and 11 points respectively.
