Mombasa based Kenya Ports Authority men’s basketball team on Saturday afternoon beat Lions basketball team 84-73 at the Nyayo Gymnasium in the KBF Classic League.

The 1st quarter saw the two teams even despite Lions having the physical presence and it ended with KPA having a two point advantage the scores being 22-20. In the 2nd quarter Lions put to use the size advantage especially Chiza Aristote who dominated in terms of rebounds and this saw Lions get 17 points while KPA had a close 15 points and this put the half time scores at a level 37-37.

In the 3rd quarter KPA opted to base their defence starting from Lions’ own half of the court and this worked as it forced the home side to concede a number of turnovers resulting to KPA taking the quarter with 20 points against Lions 17 points.

Antony Ojuku’s side sealed off the match in the last quarter with a resounding 27 point win against Lions’ 19 points. Despite lacking the size as compared to their opponents, KPA used their speed in opening up the Lions defence on top of the constant threat that danger man Alex Lugasi possessed in terms of the 3 point shots.

Lions’ Tobias Onyango was the match’s top scorer with 24 points followed by Victor Ochieng who sunk in 11 points. Samuel Ocholla was KPA top scorer with 15 points followed by Brian Muramba whoa 14 points to his name.
