Two Kenya Basketball Federation referees Jaffer Mohammed and John Oduor are recuperating well at the Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi where they were transferred on Thursday after being involved in a tragic road accident at Makuyu.

The accident that involved a matatu and a canter claimed the lives of nine people including two KBF referees Seif Luali and Vincent Kimuyu and Kaimosi teachers Training College soccer coach Norbert Omogo.They were headed to Murang’a Teachers College for the ongoing national College games.

While speaking after visiting the injured referees at the hospital, Kenya Basketball Federation official Joseph Amuoko said, “Doctors have said Jaffer is doing well. He is responding well to treatment. He suffered a knock on the head but he seems to be doing very well.”

“Oduor is still in ICU and we have not managed to talk to him though he was able to talk well yesterday.” Amuoko said.

Seif’s body was moved to Mombasa on Thursday and he will be laid to rest on Friday while Vincent Kimuyu’s body still lies at the Thika district hospital mortuary.

 Amuoko further said, “We will be able to meet on Saturday as referees and as a federation to discuss ways on how we will support the families of the lost brothers. We are all shocked by the sudden loss and we send our condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their loved ones through the accident.”
