Equity bank Blades in KBF Division One

Equity basketball team on Sunday afternoon beat Strathmore Swords (team B) 59-45 in the Kenya Basketball Federation Division One league.

The match that was played at the Nyayo Gymnasium saw Equity take an early lead in the 1st quarter with 20 points against the Madaraka based students who sunk in 14 points. Equity who had the size advantage capitalized on the numerous rebounds they collected with Center Brian Obimbo giving Swords a hard time on defence.

In the 2nd quarter Swords managed to rally back with quick counter attacks which worked out for them and they took the quarter with 11 points despite pressure from the Bankers. Equity had 9 points to put the half time scores at 29-25.

Equity’s Godfrey Abuya and Obimbo combined well in the 3rd quarter of the match to open up the gap with good ball movement and this saw the 2012 Nairobi Basketball Association League champions take the quarter with 15 points. Strathmore “B” who are newcomers to the league had 9 points.

This was the first time the two teams who gained promotion into the league meet and in the last quarter Equity made sure they continue with their dominance over the students with another 15-11 win. Obimbo was the match’s top scorer with 19 points to his name followed by Abuya who had 17 points.

Michael Ligare was Strathmore’s leading scorer with 12 points. In the another Division One played at the venue Trail Blazers overcame Parklands Baptist 86-61.
