Kenyan and Zone 5 basketball champions Eagle Wings need to raise One Million shillings to finance their trip to Morocco for the 2013 edition of the FIBA Club competition. The team was expected to depart Nairobi on Tuesday but had their flight rescheduled to Thursday in order to give officials some more time to raise the deficit.

The self supported team needed close to 3 Million shillings to finance the trip but the government came in to help in purchasing tickets for the traveling contingent. This cost 1.8 Million shillings, leaving the club with the burden of raising funds to cater for their accommodation and meals while in Morocco.

“We appreciate the support we have received from the government. We however still are in a dilemma because flying to Morocco is one thing but without accommodation and meals then we cannot be able to travel.” Says Agina Wesonga the team’s manager.

Though the tournament will commence on Friday, Agina says they have already requested FIBA to reschedule their matches as they may arrive in Morocco late.

The other regional representatives USIU left Nairobi on Tuesday night and landed safely in Morocco ready for the matches.

The technical meeting will be held on Thursday.
