Eagles Wings defy late arrival to fly past Les Gazelles

Despite arriving late, Kenya’s basketball champions Eagle Wings started her campaign in the 2013 regional Zone 5 basketball competition with a 66-49 win over Burundi’s Les Gazelles on Wednesday morning in Burundi.

The team departed Nairobi late on Tuesday evening for the Burundi capital where they are expected to defend their title won last year.

The Kenyan champions had to request for postponement of their opening match against APR of Rwanda from Tuesday and has now been pushed to Thursday as they delayed to depart Nairobi due to delayed funding.

They will play two matches on Thursday, the first one against APR from Rwanda at 9:00am and the other against Don Bosco of Tanzania at 3:00pm.

The other women Kenyan representatives at the competition, United States International University (USIU)– Flames - on Tuesday opened their campaign with a 60-43 win over Uganda’s KCC.
