Former Champions Eagle Wings piped defending Champions KPA 68-58 in a thrilling game played on Saturday afternoon at the Nyayo gymnasium. KPA were caught on the napping in the first quarter losing 18-8 and that margin was to haunt them during the entire game.
They seemed to be on the recovery path in the second quarter but Eagle Wings would have none of their comeback; they initiated a great defense with 3.38 left to play. KPA seemed to be in a hurry in the final minutes of the second quarter and conceded two easy baskets and an uncontested three-point shot that almost brought the second quarter to parity but KPA snatched it 16-17.
The introduction of Brenda Angeshi, Miriam Awuor and Cardin Mureji for KPA sparked their offence at the beginning of the second half but the dreaded Wings duo of Silalei Shani and Angela Okoth ruined KPA’s efforts with the two staging the best defense pair witnessed in the court over the recent past.
The highly charged third quarter that kept the fans on their feet and ended in a tie of 21-21 although KPA will rue many chances that they failed to capitalize on.
Final fourth quarter was evenly contested with great zeal by both sides but Wings were out to defend their 10 point lead in the first quarter and they did in style with Angela consistently thwarting the advances of KPA.
Wings bagged the match by winning the final quarter 13-12 to set a stage for a mouth-watering clash that will determine this year’s champions on Sunday at 3:00pm.
Cardin Mureji and Miriam Awuor bagged 14 and 12 points respectively for KPA while Angela Okoth and Shani Silalei donated 21 and 16 points respectively to their side’s win.
