World 5,000 and 10,000m Champion Vivian Cheruiyot has her eyes fixed on the London 2012 Olympics and thus did not participate in this years’ national Cross Country trials at Uhuru Gardens on Saturday.
In an interview with Michezoafrika.com, The recently crowned Laureaus Sportswoman of the year who was on the sidelines to cheer the participants said that she had planned to participate in the race just to keep herself fit but was kept away by sickness.
“I wanted to participate in the Birmingham indoor games but I could not because I fell sick. I thought that by today my body would be feeling well but It has not. I have not attained 100% fitness. I want to keep my eyes on the Olympics”, she said.
Athletics Kenya Secretary General David Okeyo confirmed this to michezoafrika .com by saying,
“Vivian and Masai had asked not to be included in the team because they want to concentrate on the London Olympics. Even if they had participated and won, they would not have been included into the team; as per their wish”, AK Secretary General David Okeyo said.
Cheruiyot is the defending Champion of the Senior Women’s category after winning last year’s Championships in Penta Umbria Spain.
