Patrick Makau the world record holder is setting his eye to lowering his Berlin record of 2.03.38 in the busy year ahead. The world record holder reckons that the team Kenya has selected to the Olympics marathon is the strongest in the recent past.
“I do not consider any of them as my challenger, but my country men who are strong and capable of winning the Olympic medal, we are going to work as a team, that is how the marathon is run, but my main objective is to lower the Berlin record I set. “Said Makau in an interview with michezoafrika.com on Tuesday.
The confident Makau has assured Kenyans that his absence from the media headlines since the beginning of the year started should not worry them much as he is doing perfectly well in personal training.
“You do not have to train in public ,mine is a bit quiet, since I know the task ahead, I like it that way, Kenyans should expect a better Makau in this busy year” he said
He was speaking during the launch of the historic half marathon run that is to be held later this month. The half Marathon will celebrate the United Nations Environment Programme UNEP’s decades of working towards a sustainable healthy environment and raising public awareness in partnership with Paul Tergat.
Makau is currently conducting his training at the Ngong hills.
