Midenyo's brace guides Tusker to a win over South Sudan

George Midenyo notched a brace to secure Tusker a 3-1 win over their hosts South Sudan in an Independence Day celebration friendly match played on Sunday evening in Juba South Sudan. The match that was well attended by thousands of the freedom celebrants was the first to be played by South Sudan as an independent nation.

The home team was the first to score but Midenyo was quick to notch on to a loose ball in the box for the equalizer as the teams settled on a 1-1 score line by half time.

Midenyo hit the 2nd goal a few minutes into the second half before Tusker were gifted a 3rd from an own goal by the Southerners to end the match on a 3-1 advantage for the visitors.

South Sudan had initially extended an invitation to the Senior Harambee Stars team but logistical issues proved a major hurdle. The fact that Tusker FC didn't have a KPL fixture last weekend made it easier for the organizers to settle on them for the fully funded trip.

Michezoafrika.com would also wish to congratulate our neighbors South Sudan on their milestone achievement after becoming an independent state.
